Bethel Lutheran’s Visit to Kisumu
September 22, 2011 No CommentsDear Friends in Christ,
As we reminisce on what transpired during the visit of our beloved friends from Bethel Lutheran
Church Canada; Colossians 3:12-17 rings so true to our ears:
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility,
meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and , if one has a complaint against another,
forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these
put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule
in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of
Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms
and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do,
in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through him.”
Pastor Marv and Becky Ziprick, Rob and Debra Strutt, Ric and Debbie Paterson, Bruce and
Gayle Cormier, Deloyce Elle, Deb Watson, Jaime Kilford, Rick Kilford, Greg Schoepp, Paul
Schoepp, and Darcy flew into Nairobi on August 2, 2011 to begin their adventure in Kenya. This
team brings to life Paul’s writing to the Colossian people as he exhorts them to be fruitful in
the pure faith, doing all sorts of good works for one another, and he describes for some various
stations in life the works which are appropriate to them.
This team was met on arrival by Deaconess Lorna Meeker and rested at FPKF Kindaruma Guest
House in Nairobi. The following day they traveled to Kisumu by way of Caravan Tours and took
up residence at Jumuia Hotel Kisumu where they would spend their next ten nights.
The team had only 10 days to implement and achieve their objectives and therefore had no time
to waste. They took just one day to mobilize their tools of implementation. We will not forget
to mention the official opening of the “Wonder container” that housed all the playground and
working tools. On day 2; the team started working the chain of activities listed below.
1. Constructing a playground at Point of Grace Academy
2. Conducting a National training seminar for ELCK Deaconesses at ATP Lutheran Training
Institute
3. Hosting a five day Vacation Bible School at Point of Grace Academy
4. Dedicating and handing over the playground to Point of Grace Academy
We will be posting details of each activity on the website over the next several days.
